Easy ales (big!) at the dock light last night. Fished the usual BW haunts. I marked quite a few small schools but only caught 2 fish , 5-6 lbs each. Both on free lines . Down rods were nervous but never really hit. I watched a Striper just knock the hell out of a ale on a flatline...slapping him all over the place. He just never really ate him. It's the closest I will come to a Yam - like action video. Kids reported breaking fish at the cliffs yesterday evening while they were burning my gas. Water temps at 78. I think I'm gonna go buy a long hosed pump setup to refill my tank this year. The 35ga SBT is fantastic, but I'm sure a few bucketfuls of surface water will kill the hard earned bait. As I came in this morning the traffic was picking up big time. Lots of boats making the largest wakes possible.

Definately get a deep pump, fill with well water or use ice. Temps are getting to where you don't want to be using surface water for alewifes.

Mike, How do you run power to the pump at 20'? Won't an outdoor cord short out when submerged? Probably a stupid question but I've gotta ask it.

Here's my setup smlfishingforums.proboards.com/thread/1219/deep-water-pump-rigHowever - I know some guys use AC Extension cords and the plugs for such a purpose and it's not watertight and it works - but I'm just not sure about potential stray current, etc - Brian can probably answer that part and any risks. The other thing you just need to be careful of is if you have +12V DC gear wired using 110V AC plugs / sockets that someone does not accidentally plug it into an AC supply.

Another option to my setup - which keeps the wiring short - is to use a thru-hull pump and connect an output hose to fill the tank and then one more sections of hose on the intake side. Connect a weight to the intake hose and set the pump in the water. Water will find its level I the intake hose and as you start the pump - even if the pump is just a few feet in the water - you'll draw water from the depths.

Yep mike I use the extension cord and it works great. However I did plug my pump into a 120v and quickly went online to purchase a new pump.
