Arrived Friday evening around 8 pm. Turned on the dock light and about 9:30 the ales were at the light. Gathered up a bucket full to fish off the dock until midnight, only got hit by the dreaded white bass. Took a buddy of mine with me Sat. morning, started fishing around 6 am after loading up some ales for us and my neighbor who was headed out also. AT mid 50's WT 73. We drug planers, downlines, and floats around the Franklin Community Park area. First board went off not long after being there, landed a small channel cat. About 20 mins. later in the same place I caught the smallmouth 2 weeks ago another one takes a board. So we landed, photoed, and released those two, they were the last two we boated. Only fished til about 9 am. During which we moved down to the Emerald Island area, where we found a school on the south side. But guess which way the wind was starting to blow. Couldn't stay over them, with out sliding towards the island. Didn't fish Sunday for various reasons, but did go out Monday morning with about the same conditions but the AT was in low 60's. Short on time I decided just to pull the umbrella rig a little closer to the house, not much was found, not much was interested, and nothing was landed. So as far as the striper go, the big goose egg for the weekend. But no skunk, and my buddy got to catch his first two fish on the planers, pretty sure he went to CQ and made a purchase after that. Fish or no fish, time on the lake is always rewarding to me. Eventually I hope I will have the time to put in the time to track down those elusive schools of stripers and build the data to put myself on the fish. Until then I will have to rely on luck and you guys to give what information you can. I appreciate the reports always.

Nice report smlmike. Like you said, "Fish or no fish, time on the lake is always rewarding to me". I'm the same way. It's like therapy.

Mike, I have been slaying them in the creeks where boat traffic is minimal and fishermen are nonexistent. I am just picking some interesting contours on the Navico map and hitting them. My goal is to find shallow areas to improve my under water footage. I really could care the less about the fish.

Yam, first, I want to say I respect you as a person and a fisherman and I thoroughly enjoy your post and pics ..... but the above statement, along with the treble stinger in your other post being swallowed by a striper is very troubling to me. If the above statement is true and your hellbent quest just to get underwater footage is more important than the fish.. well.... I honestly don't know what to say..... other than, I do realize, you are entitled to fish however and for any reason you like....

I just want to put my bait out there and pull. Once the main goal becomes catching striper, I get too pressured and impatient. Once my goal shifts to just enjoying the day and filming underwater structures and such, the fish seem to follow. This is what I mean by not caring about catching the fish. It appears I left out the "catching" in the above statement. And bigun you know that my favorite part of catching is releasing. I have always advocated catch and release. In terms of trebles, I do not find them any worse than any other sharp object that you intentionally jam through a stripers mouth. 95 percent of the fish I catch with a stinger are just fine. The ones that die...I harvest. And trust me, I don't eat much striper.

Thanks for clarifying.... I was hoping you simply mis-spoke.... nothing wrong with keeping fish to eat, as long as we don't kill a big number doing so to keep our limit......

Mike, to further add to this discussion, the below illustartes what I am talking about. A few weeks back I kept hearing about all the fish at the dam. Oh my god...even "Todd" was there! I found this pretty little piece of underwater love at home while looking at my maps. Rather than dreaming of putting myself in the middle of the fleet, I dreamed of pulling these contours. If I caught fish...so be it...I was more interested in filming the structure and enjoying a hot day on SML without all the melee! You can't imagine how many fish rewarded me. And frankly, I don't care if the whole world goes to this place now. I can easily find a new place to play on SML. In fact, I have at least 100 other spots that I have yet to check out and probably 1000 more that I haven't even noticed...

I sit on my dock a many of mornings at 5 or 6 am and watch the charter boats go by. That's the last time I usually see them. I to like to fish my own spots, it's more rewarding in the end for me that I did it on my own (with some help from you guys). I have learned a ton from this forum, but just like any sport, the more you practice, the better you are come game time. I have to work 5 days a week, don't get paid vacations or holidays, so my time on the water is very rewarding fish or no fish. And when I am not on the water, just like Yam and his maps, I am collecting my data/information to put to use come game time. Thanks again for all the words of wisdom and encouragement! Tightlines until the next trip!!!

And bigun.... go easy on Yam what he's doing (research) and others are doing by posting, are helping us to be a better fisherman. I am pretty sure most everyone on here has the up most respect for the SML fishery.
