Fished friday night with artificials for stripers. Started at the dam along with about 20 other boats. Caught 3 small fish at the dam on swimbaits and decided it was just too crowded so I moved up toward R8. Caught 4 more on swimbaits in this area but all were less than 5 pounds. Moved on up to the s curves and the shad were up real thick with plenty of stripers busting them. Picked up a wake bait and caught 7 more fish most being small with the biggest right at 12 pounds. Also caught about a 6 pound channel cat on the wakebait. Even though most of the fish were small it was still a lot of fun using pretty light bass gear. Hopefully I can get back up there a few more times while the shad spawn is going on. This is probably my favorite time of year to fish smith mountain.
