OK, I know you hunters celebrate the opening of deer season as a national holiday - but I think the 1st day of Fall should be the same for striper fishermen ;D
I was back up to the lake to work on the basement and check out the "Civil War Days" at SML. Of course, that means sneaking in a little fishing. The family was not coming up till Sat mid-morning so that gave me at least a few hours to get on the water.
I headed out Friday evening in search of bait - hit several lights - ales were a tough - found a a few gizzards in the mix.
Was out later chasing bait than I had planned due to having to field-strip the trolling motor while floating out near Websters and "persuade" the magnetic switch that kills power to the TM to behave.... I'm going to have to pull it off and take it up to SML Marine Electronics soon I guess....
Left my dock about 6:45a to head out and pick up Tyler - beautiful morning for the 1st day of Fall
Set out the bait and pretty quickly had our first action, but it would not commit. Found our 1st fish soon enough....
Fish ON!
Nice SML fish!
Eased over to the other side towards some fishy looking cover and had a little chase - I snatched the board and the fish hit hard - set the hook, but apparently the fish had the bait by the tail and it let go a few seconds later Story of my life
The action slowed so we turned around and pulled back through where we had the earlier action. Had one chase very near where Tyler's fish came from but it did not want to eat.
You'd think one nice fish wouldn't whoop a guy this bad....
Wrapped it up about 11a - with some extra bait still in the tank "just in case"... There is always the 2nd day of Fall...... although I spent Sunday working on the basement - Tyler came and collected the left-over bait and put them to good use with GuitarBo and some of his buddies
Oh - and in case anyone was questioning it - the battle does still wage on here in the South!
