Fished this morning, lower blackwater in the mist and drizzle. Water was clear and 74 degrees. It was in the mid 60s, windy, misty, and humid. The carp were spawning heavy, which seemed to hurt the bite a bit. All the fish I caught came in about 7' of water.
I hung a nice largemouth on my 2nd cast using a Fat Rap. It shook the hook near the boat on a jump. Using a 3/16 oz roadrunner tipped with gulp, i got some 10-13" white perch, yellow perch, shellcrackers, a 29" channel cat, 33" carp, 18" striper and 2 more largemouth at 17". The carp did eat the jig!
Of note, the carp and catfish were followed to the boat by much larger catfish. Also, those roadrunner spinner swivels are not very durable. I went through a half dozen jigs because the swivels kept breaking and the spinners would get lost.
The previous weekend I caught a bunch of nice white perch and a couple largemouth in the same lower blackwater areas, using jigs n minnows.
There has been lots of alewives in the creeks which has the fish pretty spread out through the water column.
