Headed out this am and arrived at landing to be greeted by the FLW college tour. Does anyone realize that some schools give 30K scholarships for bass fishing? Only had three boats in front of us so all went well. Wt 70-75 to dang hot. Foggy as heck and misting until about 10am. Bait was easy for a change two and done. Nice ales. Hit some top water action early boated one, lost one (me ) Then decided to try a less crowded area dragging bait and caught a nice big fat 22 incher, loaded with eggs. In a turn to go back over that area when fish erupted just to our left. So bait lines in and we chased them from 830 until 10 catching two more and losing two more. fish stayed up maybe 30 seconds and then sounded. Marked a ton of fish running all over. Then back to bait after lunch and had a nice hit that took me into the trees, felt like a nice fish but broke me off. Still really considering why I changed from braid 50/flour20 to 20 mono, 17 mono leader. Three fish lost in the trees so far. Decided to end the day before the FLW weighed in at 230, just beat them. Somehow in taking the boat out of the water I lost my glasses, three weeks old. Good day on the water, met a couple nice boats with guys from Ohio down for the week. Cheers, John

Yep. I switched from braid to mono as well..almost identical to what you described...Hate it! Never again. Back to braid after the season. The memory alone from 20lb test spools ticks me off.

Actually I like everything about the mono main line. Less tangles caused by the wind, much easier to get tangles you get out, runs much better on boards and float lines. I think I may switch my leader from 17lb mono to a fluorocarbon. Every break has been at the leader which is as it should be. I will say this, run Stren original as 20lb test main line and try to break it when you're hung. Tough stuff, really tough.
