Fished this passed Sunday & Monday. WT was 64-66 AT mornings 50 deg. daytime high 70's to 80 deg. Went out Sunday night around 8 pm. pulling the U-rig got one to the boat around 8:30 instead of netting him I tried to lift the striper out by the u-rig. Never had problems before but this time the snap swivel broke, and the fish disappeared with the jig still in. Pissed! This fish was larger than I normally catch. Darkness set in and went looking for bait in the cove above me, and the ales were there along with a catfish. Put about 30-40 4" avg. ales in the boat and headed to the dock about 10 pm. Not much for night fishing from the boat by myself. So I baited some floats at the dock, had some action up until midnight and someone flipped the switch. Monday I got up at 5 am. to catch more same size ales at my light. Headed for the creek/cove below me. Pulled my only two planer boards (only used them twice before) on the bank side with 2 floats out the back and a downline. Outside planer board got pulled down about the 2nd secondary point in the cove, I jumped up out of my seat as fast as I could. But patiently paused to start reeling Fish On! So I landed my first planer fish and probably my biggest striper to date 26" and about 8lbs. on the grips. Had three more pull downs after that but was able to land those, one I picked up the rod and he bolted straight for the boat. Probably didn't get 3-4 turns on reel and he was under me, tried to fish him out but eventually he spit the hook or I pulled to hard. Pissed X2! What a rush planer boards are !!!
