4/16 Fishing and THE WEATHER GUESSERS!

Okay VENT first. Was going to go last Tuesday but the weather forecasters A.K.A. FFFING WEATHER GUESSERS, said 100% chance of rain and wind from the N/NE at 8 gusting to 15mph. So we decided to put the trip off a couple days. Wake up Tuesday, calm, no rain, in fact no rain until late afternoon. BUMMER!
So looked at weather GUESSER forecast again and yesterday looked okay, no rain except late afternoon, winds light and variable but out of SW.
Arrived at 0 dark thirty, IN THE RAIN, hit a couple places and got bait, 4 moneymakers, 4 big gizzards and a tank of alewives and peanuts. ALso caught some huge Crappie, 3 perch and 4 white perch.
Went north of the bridge, IN THE RAIN, put out lines, headed into a creek and Todd was right in front of us. Damn, good- fish here, bad-- small creek. Anyway he was moving out as we went it and hit one nice fat 25 inch fish that fought much bigger.
Messed around and nothing more, moved back down to run into another of my favorite spots, turned the corner, and Todd's right in front of me with bait out. CRAP and IN THE RAIN! Now I don't mind rain if the fish are baiting, but when the WEATHER GUESSERS said no rain--damn.
So I turned around and went over to another favorite spot and a boat comes around the corner dragging bait, and it's Travis. CRAP and more rain! These guys have figured out my favorite places. LOL. Todd was actually in a spot that's given up well over 20 citations in the last 4-5 Aprils.
Soooo, we went down lake as I don't like to crowd folks. Big mistake. Never hit any type of school from the point a.k.a Mwards "secret spot", to Ski Cove. I did run overtop one school, stopped boat turned around and they were not to be found. IN THE RAIN.
All in all we caught 4, biggest about 13 lbs or so and got a LOT WET, did I say it was RAINING? Not one hit on a big gizzard, all takers were on alewives and peanuts.
Now if any of you guys are WEATHER GUESSERS, sorry but you do not deserve to get paid, you should just have them slip your paycheck to you under the table because you haven't earned it.

Nice report John, weather forcasting is always a crap shoot and sometimes you have to defy the odds and hope for the best. Sounds like a good day to say the least. Glad to see there are still some fish on the north side of the bridge.

I admit I fished Todd's scraps a couple of times in the past. Now I don't. In fact.. Unless I planned to hit a spot that he is fishing, if I see him, that spot is off limits to me. Scraps... That ain't fishn!

But now.. It seems I see him every time I go out. I have changed direction a few times but dang it.. Sometimes I stay my course.

I will say that Todd and Travis are the nicest great fisherman guides I have ever passed. Unlike many others who will run wide open 5 feet from your boat, these guys are awesome people. Todd has slowed down off plane to a crawl for me in the main channel in a wide area before. I will never forget it.. I wonder if that was his way of saying that he saw me turn around earlier and give an area totally to him. And Travis... Well he is like a wild hunter from the pioneer days whose side I would want to be on. His words stick.

Todd is certainly one of the best guides on the lake and he has put alot of time in and probably forgot more about the lake than all of us will ever know but when you spend every day out there, it's to be expected. I feel good about fishing certain areas of the lake if I see him fishing it bc I know there is fish around. I don't follow his path but I definetly look around within a few miles of where he's fishing. You can't compete with someone who's out there every day of the year. I have often wonder how many fish he cpr-s bc I follow him on Facebook and he puts alot of fish in the boat.

All big fish - and most others...... you won't find many other guides that are more conservation minded and protect our larger fish (well, fortunately there are a couple that share his view....)

that's awesome and great to know. I'd say tons of these fish know him by name and have met with him on several occasions.

It's actually funny how many times I've gotten texts from Todd like "hey do you know who this boat is - he follows me everyday." I try to stay away from Todd as much as I can these days - he draws a crowd and I dont wanna be around that if I can avoid it. He's definitely as good as it gets and he may make it look it easy, but he works his ass off. Fishing is like any other job or sport - you work hard and you get results. He's a worker and that's why he's so successful. Same with Travis - Travis works full time and still does 3-4 guide trips a week. Bait fishing ain't for the lazy, that's for sure.

One thing for sure when you are dragging bait down a bank towards a point and a boat appears on the other bank coming around towards you and its Todd, then you are in the right place. ( happened to me Thursday);D
