Bait was a PITA at first. The bait finally moved in and one throw could have filled 10 boats full of 5-7" alewives. Picked up Mward at 630ish and he brought some Bojangles biscuits as his boarding pass! (Thanks again for breakfast and lunch Mward!) We headed south! Scouted the lower lake for probably about an hour. Started marking some singles on the lower Blackwater, so we put bait out and picked up 2 or 3 fish pretty quickly. Those fish disappeared so we went looking again back over to the lower Roanoke River. Todd saw "millions" breaking so we hauled tail right in behind him. Fish went down right as we both got there. Neither of us could find them, so headed south again looking around Vista Pt while Todd and crew went up. We fished there for all of about 5minutes, but we caught 1! Got word the "millions" were found so we hauled tail (lots of fuel being used in all this hauling tail!) back up the lake a little ways. Got there to busting fish and quite a few under us. Stayed there rest of morning and probably caught another 10-12 fish in that area with a couple doubles and a triple. Most of the fish went 5-8lbs I guess give or take. All came on bait except I did jig up one 2lber on a fluke during our triple I think. Bout noon or so, we ran back up the river and ate lunch at the Pizza Pub to end the morning.
Thought a Lacy and his girl might join me, but never heard back, so I headed on out about 445pm. Started to put the boat on plane and out of the corner of my eye saw a couple fish breaking across from the house. Eased over there and they started going pretty heavy. I was stumbling and fumbling trying to tie a new lure on my rod to cast in there. Caught 2 10lbish fish before they went down. Told Mward to meet at the dock..he declined..big mistake! Came up on the other side of the lake for a minute, but then went down again and I couldn't find them so I thought, "if they're breaking up here, there must be millions breaking down the lake." I hauled tail down the lake, searched everywhere, nothing. Waste of gas and an hour. Headed back up to the house, got there and they're still breaking. Missed a fish, then hooked into a freight train that I never did stop til it got into the trees. Things died down for about 20minutes, then the grand finale started! Fish started breaking over about 3-5acres I would guess. That's when the catching really started. Not sure how many I caught, but it was a few. Mostly small though..3-4lb fish, but a lot of fun on light tackle. I was tired of unhooking them at one point and got a video. I never get that lucky and right in front of my house..only boat! It was perfect!
