So yesterday I stopped by the local marine place to get an oil filter for my 150 Yamaha.this time it cost me $29 bucks, felt robbed as I walked out the door.I had a 115 from 2002-2011 and they were $12 in the past the one for the 150 was about $20.Came home and cross referenced and found a fram extra guard and Purolator at advance for under 6 bucks. What can be that much difference? I would not want to mess up an outboard to save 20 buck but darn!! Anybody have thought on this.I will use this one this time but soon as the old one drains out good I'm cutting that sucker open to see.

Happy I have a Polaris Ranger utv 6 wheeler. Polaris oil filters are 22.00 bucks and fuel pump was 45.00. I went on a atv/utv website and found a cross reference listing and now buy Napa oil for 6 and Napa fuel pump for 15.00. Brand name is what you are paying for.

On the Yamaha board, they were using Mobil 1 oil and filters. Plus they had some tricks for changing the oil. Oil changeOil change pictorialThe lawn tractors is the same game. Do a cross reference and get the standard oil filter for half or less of the lawn tractor brand.

I would bet the bank that Yamaha makes 10 times as much on their oil and accessories than they lose on offering long warranties that are only good if you use their parts.
It's just good business.
As an educated consumer, it is just as wise to see through this and buy equivalent parts for much less.

long warranties that are only good if you use their parts. I am pretty sure that they don't do that as it is illegal in the United States... Look up the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act

True Brian. I put Mobile One in my new vehicles at 1st oil change. Dealers have never had a problem with it.

I use this company as well for my 100 hour work that seems to occur every 2 months.
