I fished in the Campers Paradise area Sat. and Sun. using small minnows, nary a bite. Does the water temp have to be in the sixties? eddiet Did you try using small shad? I am quite sure the big fat crappie aren't getting that big on store bought minnows!

That's interesting speculation because I was catching 3" and smaller shad in that area.. then I got excited when I marked what I thought was a school of mongos only to pull up a net full of big crappie.

We've been to Blackwater and Hardy Rd. last 2 weekends and got zip big enough to keep. Zero were shallow. By April 10th last year we'd gotten over 55 keepers (crappie) from Blackwater, all over 10", most were 1.5 pound or better. Don't know if the cold fronts have delayed the spawn this long or if we just missed the best part of it by working Monday through Friday and only having weekends to get on the water. We went to northeast Alabama the first week of April, Lake Weiss, and caught some under the bridges one day but bombed the next three days. Old timer that lives on the water there, super nice man, chatted with us awhile and said the spawn hasn't happened there yet (water was near 70!). That's a little further south than us but they're getting the same cold fronts too.
Maybe we need to buy a net and figure out how to cast if! LOL
