Went over with a buddy and my grandson for his spring break.
We went after bait around noon on Tuesday and it was a little tough at that time of day. Did manage about 6 big 11-13" gizzards and 10 moneymakers and about 3 dozens peanuts.
Started out up river trying to get out of the Hurricane winds that hit (35-45) it was pretty bad. Managed to edge around the mouth of a creek and nailed a nice 16 1/2 lber on a big gizzard with a 4/0 bridled hook. Mistake hook! I had put the bridle on and intended to use a 6/0 on another rod before my buddy had it in the water. Turned out pretty good though hook wedged right in the corner of the mouth. We caught 3 more all on peanuts, before I had to find another place to go out of the wind.
Next am we got more bait on a one and done cast with 15 moneymakers, 6 big gizzards, and 3 dozen peanuts to go with what was left over.
Started back where we finished up the evening before and had a long dry run of misses and pull downs, until about 10am when my grandson slinging a 1oz little George off the front of the boat hooked a nice 3-4lber that gave him fits.
After lunch at Moosies (I don't take pictures of my food we took our bait for a walk on another main channel stretch out of the FFFFFIIING wind. But did hit another nice 12 lber and bunch of smaller 2-3 lber that were feisty.
Thursday am we went up river again and hit a nice school in front of what my grandson called "The Halloween House" when the morning light hit it is was almost Orange and Black. No wind when we started and that alone was exciting.
We didn't catch anything big but had a bunch of small fish on, missed a bunch and caught a couple nice 10lbers.
Funny thing was we had one big gizzard free lining on a float in back, to outside planers with moneymakers next two planers with peanuts and inside planers weighted 1/2oz with moneymakers. Every fish we caught in that school were caught on peanuts. We ended up switching all rods except a couple to peanuts. It worked.
This am my friend left so it was me and my grandson. I turned left out of the hotel cove and fished what used to be the best bank in SML until they built a frigging dock on my hole. Fish were rolling here and there and a few busting so we put out the spread and of course me and my grandson had 4 rods go at once! He grabbed one and lost the fish in a tree, I landed a nice 10lber and we missed the other two. The DF had lit up and then I could not find the school again.
We headed down to the public ramp by CG station and I marked a nice school on the way to take the boat out. Right directly in front of the ramp. I tried to put out bait and we simply couldn't get our lines in the water as we were on top of a school of about 14-15 inch stripers that hit everything we dropped. Johnny had a ball and caught 7, one on his Fenwick rod with his Curado baitcaster! Damn proud of that! Don't everyone go running there as they left after about 30 minutes not to be marked again.
BTW if stripers don't hit the head of the fish(as some folks have commented) why in all the pics is the tail sticking out of the fishes mouth?
