So let me get this right, you got your wife to come fishing to celebrate HER birthday? Grab hold and don't let that women go. My wife considers having to fish akin to waterboarding. You didn't say whether you were live bait or lure fishing. Either way that S turn directly in front of the State Park has multiple points on them and all are good for stripers. Bucktails have been working good for the lure fisherman. Hard to beat them almost year round.

Yes she is definitely a keeper! We like to catch live bait and use boards mostly. We have had our best luck in the Roanoke arm. Thanks for the info striperjohn.
Are the big gizzards in the backs of creeks right now?
Thanks,
Mark

I haven't been down to the lake in awhile but, my guess is you can put a spread out in just any creek right now and catch fish. I will be out fishing this weekend in a (19' white sea hunt with NO t-top and a red stripe on it.) If you see me out there just go ahead and setup as I plan on being on the fish.. Well, that is the plan anyway.... Honestly, I just hope I can run into this strange Yam character. (The bait whisper). Or maybe if I am really lucky, I will run into the elusive Bigun.

(moving out of the report section since it's not a report - yet.... ) Gizzards have been in the creeks but last weekend what I found was still over deeper water. Expect they had moved shallow the last few days but this arctic cold blast will push them back deeper for a few days - you know, just for the weekend.....joy.....

I second the Scurves area. Perhaps scope out Waltons/Airport cove as well.

You won't run into bigun around the state park right now. No doubt there are some fish down that way, as there are year round.... just not in the numbers I like..... yet.

We may just trailer up and put in somewhere up north so I can catch bait in muddy waters. Would it be better to put in at Hardy or Indian Point for a try at bait and fishing?
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks will let you know how it works out. Waiting for it to warm up a bit right now! If the bait goes deep today due to the cold, you can still get them if they are schooled up in long thick carpets. You will need a very wide open net and a serious desire to throw alot! However, I would still throw a few nets at and between docks close to where the bait is holding. I found my mongos yesterday using this technique. Travis (CATSnSTRIPERS), "Turn off them electronics and blind throw....you'll get em!" I wish you the best!
