I saw a guy pull into the ramp with his boat half on his truck and half on his trailer. He said when he braked the winch strap broke and the boat hopped into the back of the truck. He had neither a chain on the bow eye nor transom straps.

Don't you get better gas mileage like that?

Lightens the load on your trailer so the tires last longer.

The words of Ron White "You can't fix stupid", some people never learn until something comes off the trailer or they lose the boat completely.

Some of the older guys on here might remember the day a guy pulling a 70k$ Cobia (this in the 70s) launched it at campers from about 60 feet up the ramp. He had put Teflon skids on his board runners to better assist the rollers on the trailer. Unhooked the damn thing and it went right off the boat and bashed into the ramp and skidded toward the water, stopping just short. LOL. We were inside eating lunch watching the entire event unfold. Sad, but funny as hell! His wife jumped out of the truck and kept screaming like a crazy person. LOL. I know, I know I'm a bit sick thinking that's funny. But you had to be there.

Hell...just go to any public boat launching facility if you need a laugh. Mossy ramps need four wheel drive or your vehicle may end up in the water. Santa Barbara Harbor has a very steep ramps due to lack of space and the tide changing. The closest call I had was the winch jumped lock and I was lucky to stop it before the boat came off the trailer onto the concrete ramp.
