I am new to the lake and will be in a tournament later this year. The weigh ins are at parkway marina and I am looking to rent a place for the week. Im curious if anyone knows how long it takes to boat from the upper black water river to the main lake? I don't want to rent a place but it take 2 hours to travel the lake. Also is the black water a no wake? Thanks for the help. I know nothing about the lake other than the topography .

Hard to answer - I guess it depends what you define as the main lake as the Blackwater makes up one half/side of the lake - but I guess you are thinking Parkway Marina as the main lake as it is at the lower end not far from where the roanoke and blackwater come together.

How long will depend on how fast. From the very top of the blackwater portion of the lake I would guess a good 40 min at 30 mph - bee a while since I've been up all the way.

The only no wakes are in certain coves, near marinas and within 50' of docks.

I used to run it in my bass boat in 20-25 minutes, depending on water conditions.

Are there no closer places to rent to the Parkway Marina than at the end of Blackwater?, or is Blackwater just your preferred choice of the lake to stay?

Parkway had a cottage or two I believe that rent. You might check out Belview Bay. They are all owned condos but I've seen them for rent on the web. The State Park is close and has several cabins for rent that are very nice. Need to book early on those. Several on the water.

Hey bud you can rent houses with nice docks for one or more nights. I use lakeretreat properties. Their website is lakeretreat.com and they have a bunch of properties around Parkway.
