Hey guys! So I'm thinking about trying some garlic or shad scent/gel stuff this year to add to my lures. Wanted to see if any of you have tried this in freshwater yet and if you noticed a difference. Also, what do you think about the idea of freezing some blended shad and then adding it to lures? Thanks

I have a friend that fishes with me that uses the garlic scented dyes on his lures/swimbaits. He swears by the stuff but I can honestly say that I have not noticed any difference. I mean, some days he catches more fish with it than I and other days I catch more without it. He usually gets it all over the place too and that stuff is a pita to clean up. Stinks too!! I always say that a lot of tackle is meant to catch fishermen not necessarily fish.

Bass lures have all that crap on them but personally I think it may mask human scent but as an attractant--naaa.

I know in saltwater, scents are nice with the tides and current kind of like chum so I figured open freshwater wouldn't be good. But I was thinking about using some sort of shad blend at night because I like to fish a shoal about half the size of a football field and it ranges anywhere from a foot to 6 feet deep. Maybe swimming a scented thunderstick might attract a fish that might otherwise pass up on it. I'll prolly experiment with it in a month or so and I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
