Took a course (Power Squadron) 20 plus years ago but can't find my card and would be interested in a refresher anyway. Anybody know if the VA Boating Safety Course is offered around SML on a regular basis? Thanks.

Realtime update via the SML Chamber of Commerce..... If you have further comment, please send an email to the legislators ASAP this evening..... What's the significance of being West of I95?!

Follow the money. That would exempt the Potomac which borders the district of the Senator who put in the bill. I guarantee he has a big donor who boats on the Potomac and is too important to learn the rules of the road.

Brian beat me to it...... at least the committee found "compromise" to keep the requirement in place for the inland waterways/lakes... assuming it passes the House - and then I guess has to go back to the Senate....

Anyone know a news reporter? With a little digging, this would make a great little 90 second piece on routine corruption in VA politics. I don't see how anyone can defend it with a straight face.

Of course it's money, but it's comical to me they'd even write that into law like that - apparently you become all knowing when you cross east of I95!

They usually do at least one a month. This course is free and it meets the requirement for the state.

Noticed that yeaterday. Suprised they went through all the effort to redraft with the whole "east of 95" thing, then the version they voted on removed that, but kept the requirement for all ages to take the class but had some other exemptions for shellfish workers or something - and then they defeat the whole thing.
Guess it's dead for now and hopefully folks will learn something from the course.
