So anyone have any idea of any lights to put on the outside of my bass boat while running and fishing at night. Looking for help seeing my fishing line, maybe an outline of the shore(so tired of losing baits in the trees) and maybe for extra safety at night. So the post about the LED lights but it would be nice to have something water proof for the outside of the boat. I work nights so I dont sleep much and figure if I am up I should try fishing. Love catching stripers at night on plugs in the spring.

Do NOT add lights for running at night - use the correct navigation lights only. You won't get any useful addition visibility - most likely just hurt your visibility and you'll at best confuse others trying to figure out which way you are going and at worst mess up their vision as well.
Now - for while fishing - some bass guys have those UV lights on the sides of the bow and use fishing line that reacts to the light so that they can better see their line when casting

Agree completely with nward. Get yourself a black glow light to hang over the side once you stop. Stren original flourescent blue shows up great with those lights.

Here is the link to download a copy of the rules. www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/navRules/COMDTINST_M16672_2D_NavRules_as_published.pdf

Hate to tell you but they are not legal either. Check the Navigation rules book. Last time I talked to DGIF they were going to crack down on the use of UV lights at night.

If so, and they are going to enforce that, they had better order some more ticket books. They could write hundreds of tickets on a Saturday night when it warms up.

Trolling a bank would be considered underway. What about spreader lights if you're not "anchored"?

Going by the Navigation Rules, only lights you can have on are the red and green front and the white 360 degree or a masthead and sternlight when underway, when anchored less than 50 meters one all around white light. over 50 meters two white lights front has to be higher, I know a bunch of the bass guys use the UV lights at night, problem is you can't tell which way they are moving. Take a little time and go through the navigation rules, they are right strict on what is legal and what is not.
