...is finally off. I caught one on my first outing for musky with a fly rod two years ago and paid dearly for it. I have put in a couple tens of thousands of casts and finally broke the curse. I have a love/hate relationship with this fish. Anyone else chase this fish with a fly rod?

Big J - that's awesome. Great to see you get that skunk off, and with Musky, you were probably about 5 years of skunk early! Might be hope for me yet1

Nice fish I'm assuming a nearby river? If it was on SML that that was probay 5 years too early to rid your skunk

Contemplated trying it last fall but couldn't resist the stripers on sml. I at least feel like I have a chance with stripers on a fly on that lake.

Musky chaser here. My last dry spell was close to a year. Fishing 2-3 Sunday's a month for them. They can be maddening, but the reward is worth it. Will be out tomorrow for them

That they are. They can drive you nuts, make you feel like your efforts are frivolous, then they will pop out of no where and make your knees shake. Best of luck to you today.

Thought I'd revive this fly fishing thread. Haven't been to SML in a while now, but caught a musky yesterday on the James. Hope to get another one this spring before the rivers warm up.

BigJ, nice fish! You fishing just below Bosher's? Also, what wt rod and reel are you using? I need to get a bigger stick for SML stripers.

Musky aren't that far down on the James. I was way up river from there. I'm throwing a fast action 10 wt. Same rod I use on SML for stripers. I plan on getting either a 9 wt or an 11 wt to add as a second rod to the big fish arsenal. Haven't decided.
