Not sure this is the right forum so please feel free to move it if not, maybe "Market"... Anyway, does anyone know of a good company to replace my wench motor & cables? Ref my whining about the low lake level, I have enough water at the slip (about 6' at 791) just not enough cable to get me down far enough. The water level needs to be about 791.5 to get my boat off the skids so I need to add a couple of feet of cable.
BTW: I didn't post much before but I read the old forums fairly often until they disappeared. I just found this again today. It's nice this forum didn't go away altogether.
Even though you guys are mostly about stipers, I'll post a green fish report tomorrow, if I can get out in the morning.

Try John Smith. He lives in Moneta. I haven't talked to him in a while so not sure if he is still doing repair work but he is honest and does a good job, I have recommended him several times and never had anyone complain back to me about his work. His number is 540-297-2707.

I used Turner's last year and had no complaints. They came out quick and did what they said at what seemed a fair price.
I talked with them about the length/depth issue in the event of low water levels. They said one thing that somewhat limits how long you can go is the fact that the longer the cable the further forward/back it has to spool on the pipe and it results in the cable pulling at an angle and increases how much it rubs against itself, increasing wear. The issue is that the way it spools this increased angle is worse when fully retracted so it's an issue all the time vs the few times you need it more fully extended.

Awesome, thanks much! Good point about cable length and the issues that might cause... Thanks again.

We use SM Dock Builders with no complaints. Send em over to mine when they get you all fixed. Mine are long enough but they're about to snap in half. I keep waiting for a cable to cut me in half. I must fish too much because they're only 3yrs old too. Mward, Turners is high, high, high. You need to quit drinking Starbucks lattes. They're good though!

I googled SM, Smith Mountain, & Smith Mountain Lake Dock Builders & couldn't find one by that name. Do you happen to have a number or URL for them? Thanks!
