Fished the Elizabeth River this past Thursday and Friday. It is sometimes called the Hot Ditch because a power plant dumps hot water into it. Trout fishing is pretty good up there and we want to give it a try. We caught around a dozen fish. All healthy, fat speckled trout. One of my friends caught his personal best, a 27" gator trout. Caught them on jigs and artificials and live bait. Pretty easy to fish it. We put in and never ventured more than a mile from the ramp. Not a pretty place, but pretty good fishing.

Friend of mine has been talking about doing that in the summer and going down and coming back for a few days, hope we can do it next year, was going to put in up towards the coast guard station and go down thru the locks and back.

You can put in at Chesapeake Yachts. The ramp is basically right at the bridge. You can see it when you drive over the bridge. First time you go, you register at the office and they give you envelopes to put your $10 in to launch and a piece of paper that you put on your dash while there. If you go there, do NOT drive fast! Go 5mph thru their lot. They insist on this to keep dust down. They will get very mad if you drive fast thru there. I've put in at the locks down south and it's not a bad ride up there, but CY's is so close and easy.

I am a USCGAUX member and we checked with the station on the river and they said we could use the ramp there and park trailer and tow truck there for a couple of days, that was why we were going to use it.
