Thursday was great. Caught fish up to 14 pounds. Morning and evening big bait bite. Afternoon down line ales. We also caught an 18 pound net that we conveniently left in 30 feet of water. We snagged it with a spoon. Funny enough, it had 4 spoons on it from our earlier attempts. Ahh... Timmy is still with me.
Friday was awesome. Along with many nice striper, we caught an 18 pound catfish that felt like an 18 pound net.
Saturday was great until it got windy. We nailed three right away then things shut down. My buddy then left and I decided to go do some stupid fishing. I pulled into 20 mph winds and finally said screw it. I then turned my boat 180 degrees as quickly as I could to see how the rednecks would perform. Uhhhh.... Monster on.... After a long fight as I was getting blown towards a cliff, I reached for my net and lost tension for one second. FISH gone! I didn't even get a chance to get upset because another planer went off in 2 foot of water as I was cruising 2mph+ towards a cliff and shallow stumpy hell. I got this one.. 12 pounds but a lifetime full of adrenaline.
Sunday was great if you enjoy using your electronics to throw on big shad and catch nothing for 5 hours. Then.. I find out that I just need to turn off my electronics and simply throw at blips or where it looks good on the side. Hmmmmm.. 30 minutes later I'm fishing! Thank you for the "old school" lesson kind sir. It was a real pleasure to meet you and even a greater pleasure to implement your teachings. I then proceeded to catch 3 more big shad stripers and lost two more. After this, it was time to clean the boat. So I parked her at the top of a long windy stretch and decided to down line those freakish ales I also caught with my new technique. Uhhhh. Let's just say... The boat didn't get much cleaning. All these fish were 4~6 pounds... But fun none the less with a side of kind of aggravating. But hey... I didn't have to keep dropping them down. Well.. actually... I was casting them and letting them drop, then locking em up. God knows what depth they were at on that swift drift. Just another.. What the heck technique.
So... Another awesome autumn outing on SML. The best thing that happened to me was not catching cats and stripers.. But meeting Catsnstripers. Thank you sir!
Oh... I forgot to mention that along with watching another eagle cruise majestically above.. I saw a cluster of 3 gulls doing their swarm dance and yes they were shouting... CaCawwwwwwww! They are coming boys!
Some Pics:
18 Pound flatty on a medium downline ale trolled at .7mph. Small hook too!
My solution to a purging tankĀ
Strategy for having net prepped and ready. However, I'm not so sure I will ever turn on my electronics again! I think I like "old school"
