Set the alarm for 1.30am and woke up at 1.27am. So... I got some sleep and boy did I need it. I met my buddy at 5.30am after watching shooting stars and shooting peanuts. And I couldn't help but wonder... Who makes peanuts? Dollar bills, money makers or mongos? Regardless, parent shad must be very tired because every creek and cove was loaded with peanuts and wind both of which were not welcome on our boat.
So, we got started fishing at 4pm. Yeah... That's right. There is no doubt in my mind that I could one-hand a cracker net like a Frisbee. I won gold today at the net throwing Olympics. And by 4pm we had 10-15 respectable baits in our tank.
As we put out our spread, we discussed the excuses for why we would not catch fish today. Then we discussed how tough days make good days great. And then we were rewarded with a gorgeous 15 pounder that looked like he was 20 pounds and swam away like a cow. Then we caught another 9.5 pounder. Then I aimed for the middle hallucination as I drove home feeling great that I caught a couple of fish and both of them are still part of our fishery.
My guess is that the Friday shift will have an easier time than the Thursday shift this week.
Cheers, Yam

Well.. Actually it was 12.5 hours. And there was some boat driving involved.
As you know, quality over quantity. And even though we are quite sure we could have caught a monster on a peanut... Somehow that is not considered quality anymore.

Stripedyam, I have to ask. . .during those 12.5 he's of cast netting, did you ever consider taking up flyfishing? Roughly the same amount of effort, but every cast has the CHANCE of a striper. . . .
And you end up with about the same results - sore arms, rampant depression, a lot of froth on the water, punctuated by moments of utter bliss that make you forget all the crap in between.
Only you stay a little drier. . .

Catching bait is to striper fishing what foreplay is to sex. Actually, now that I think about it...catching bait is foreplay and sex combined and catching a striper is the cigarette.
