So I went to bed at 10pm. Set the alarm for 3am. Woke at 11pm. Was on the water by 2am. Nut job. My alarm actually went off as I was throwing the net.!
So... 5 hours of bait throwing.. Oh yeah! I learned that my lights do work for catching ales. No lights=Peanuts.. Lights=Ales. I also learned that at around 6 am, park your boatlights in 12 feet of water and throw your 3/4. Along with big shad, you might catch some mongo ales. I did. In fact, I caught more mongo ales in two throws, then I caught regular ales all night long. Last note on bait... First ale went in at around 3 am. This same ale left around 5pm and he acted like he was on crack. All my ales lived and I could pull them for 30 minutes before they got bug eye. Very happy with the SBTII.
Morning came and I spent too much time looking for surface action and schools. I found neither and decided to pull. Morning Talley... 12 pounder and 8 pounder, both on down line ale. Big shad... Nada.
Afternoon came and the fishing God's looked down. Afternoon Talley.. 5-12 pounders and 3 sub 10s. All 12s came on planer light line. Big shad nada.
Then... I found some surface action. Very sporadic but it looked like it could bust at any moment. Then the rain came and shut things down.
One hell of a day! It's been since last March that I have seen 10 plus. Wow.. Now I realize why I am a fishing addict.
Note: I'm too tired to process gopro pictures. But I do have some great footage of me losing a nice one after he basically took out my whole spread. I looked like a fool. Should be a hoot.
Get out there boys... Its on!

Coming down next Thursday with my 2 sons to try to catch a striper. Not real sure where to start. I can throw a net and catch bait but need some guidance on where to find it. Also, over the next few weeks, where should I look for fish? Thanks TW

Coming down next Thursday with my 2 sons to try to catch a striper. Not real sure where to start. I can throw a net and catch bait but need some guidance on where to find it. Also, over the next few weeks, where should I look for fish? Thanks TW It seems to me that bait is everywhere. Honestly, your best bet is to find where the bait is thickest and to pull somewhere near it. I had no luck yesterday locating schools. I just pulled near the bait. The stripers seem to be all over the lake and not really concentrated in any place. I only had one time in the afternoon where I got hit more than once in an hour and it was a crazy hour that left my heart pumping and many tangled poles. The best advice I can give you is if you don't see any bait, don't pull there. Secondly, if you see a bunch of boats fishing then go about a half mile up or downstream from them and pull as long as you verified that bait was in the area.

That is really good advice. Since it is October, I would be looking above the bridge. I am just not sure how far above the bridge you should try.

Good report Yam! This wasn't any where near the bridge. 12mi south actually. There's some above the bridge, but proof they don't all rush to Hardy come October. Oh and these broke everywhere too!

Some random stuff from my trip. Here is a picture of a planer board taking off and me having no clue! In my GoPro video I saw that this planer went extremely deep and traveled to the other side of my boat. The next picture shows the results and what can happen when one is not paying attention to their spread. The fish was still on in the above picture but the tangle did not allow me to reel any longer and the line was too extended to "cane pole" him up. Alas, the big one got away. Finally, here is a picture of some surface action that got me pumped. It was sporadic but you better believe I was heaving my 2 oz spoon at everything within 200 yards. On the video it looks as if I am paranoid listening to every little sound ... and reacting quickly like a cornered rat when any splash occurred.

Must always face the rear of the boat when pulling planers

Good post yam. I have the similar technology on my boat as bentrod and have never had a downscan/sidescan screen fill up like that before. That is pretty darn breathtaking!
