Okay, when you guys stop laughing, will you consider it? It really is an approved form of striper fishing, and the benefit for all the other forum members is that the more idiots like me that are out there flogging the water and not catching anything, the more fish there are for everybody else.
Besides, I have an evil plan to eventually convert you bait slinging, slow trolling, fish catching die hards into real fishermen.
At which point, I will revert to bait fishing and have all the fish to myself. Bwahahahahhahaha!!

I have considered trying the fly. Have not fly fished since I moved from FL.

Gator, I will consider you my first convert. Evil plan for world domination is already taking shape!
All teasing aside, if you have interest, let me know. I have rods, flies, and boat and am happy to teach you in the ways of not catchinganything but really working hard at it. Actually, come fall, I do pretty well on stripers using a sinking line. Will try to find some pics and post them.

Nothing wrong with fly fishing. Most of our sections are related to species and location - not necessarily a style of fishing in particular, but feel free to talk about fly fishing all you want in any section it may apply to.

Maybe you could write up a "fly fishing for stripers on SML" tutorial/article and it could be stickied in the artificial lures section as a perpetual fly-fishing thread. I personally don't see the traffic for a sub-forum dedicated to it.

Let's move this part of the discussion into the Artificial Techniques section - go ahead and start a thread over there.... if I get a chance I may try and move some of these individual post into that thread once started.
