On my pontoon, I have 80 lbs of thrust and a 60" shaft. The 48" shaft will stow easier when in the up position but will also increase the possibility of being to short to keep the prop in the water when you're not on a smooth surface. The 75 lbs of thrust would / should be sufficient for most wind situations. While you'd most likely be ok with the thrust, not keeping the prop below the surface sort defeats the thrust capability. IMHO

Your trolling motor is as important or more than your fishfinder or your outboard. I have a terrova 112 36 volt 60 inch shaft on a 22 ft tritoon. Other than getting to the areas that I fish I use the trolling motor so to me it has to work or go home. Don't settle for something that might work for that amount of money. You can find them on ebay for less than they want on some of the online stores. I got mine via ebay new off a boat that someone wanted a different trolling motor on for a good price they are out there if you wait especially in the off season. Hope this helps.

Get a Minn Kota. I've never seen anyone have good luck out of those wireless motorguides. My buddy will probably sell you his 2yr old junk Motorguide cheaper than that if you really want one! I fish hard and rough and my almost 6yr old Minn Kota is hanging in there quite well...it's had a few parts and repairs done on it, but it's still kicking. My buddy's motorguide is already rusting out and he's replaced the shaft once when other one broke.

I thought most of you are Minn Kota guys. I have seen a lot of the bass guys on the TV have moved to Motor Guide. Is this to link up to their Lowrance's? Or just advertising? I will keep looking, the shaft length was a concern to me also. Can never have enough shaft. LOL! But do want something wireless that I can move around on the toon. I am not one in favor of buying used, just not the risk taker unless I can try it out in person.

You mean those bass guys (pros) that are sponsored and get new gear each year and have access to spares in the MotorGuide ProStaff support truck when something goes wrong? But with MinnKota and Humminbird rolling out some cool integration features thanks to the pairing from their parent company Johnson Outdoors, Lowrance has to dance with the second best girl at the ball. Of course Rhodan is still standing lonely in the corner.....

I have a 70 lb thrust Powerdrive 2 Minn Kota on my pontoon. I wish I would have gone with the 112 lb thrust Terrova. In 15mph winds + the Powerdrive has a very hard time trolling against the wind.

Stay away from the Motorguide. Listen to Bentrod. I had a wireless motor guide. Keyword was HAD! There is a plastic gear on the end of the electric motor that is responsible for turning the trolling motor head. The electric motor has a metal splined shaft. The plastic gear gets stripped out by the metal splined shaft. I was able to cut a keyway in the top of the gear, made a key out of a dremel tool drill bit, and covered it with a dab of JB Weld (all to re-establish the bond between the gear and the shaft) to fix it. This was per a writeup that I found on the net where some other poor Joe had the same problem. A new gearbox would've been like close to $300 if I remember right. Motorguide wouldn't sell me a new plastic gear. My rig/patch worked for a year then it finally gave out....
Google around and you will see....try "wireless motor guide gearbox problems" or something like that....
Go Minn Kota....
