Great opportunity to ask the questions from the source..... Side benefit of checking out any swap-meet items and snagging a free hot-dog.....

So, you appreciate the striper fishery that we have at SML, you want to see it continue to thrive. Maybe you are "doing your part" by releasing the big fish, perhaps you are keeping & submitting an angler diary, maybe turning in a fish head every now and again, etc. You don't see the Striper Club as something that you're interested in because maybe you can't make the meetings on the 1st Friday of each month due to work, family or that's some of your limited fishing time, or the meetings are just too far of a drive, or you live away from the area, etc, so you don't think you should join.
Well, the Club can still use & would appreciate your support. Our membership base is the best way that we communicate the importance of the striper fishery to VDGIF. The Smith Mountain Striper Club is the only organized club focused on the on-going preservation of the fishery and we have on-going dialog with VDGIF regarding management goals, issues that face the fishery, etc.
Even if you are not able to attend meetings, you can still gain value from the Club - Club members receive newsletters with lots of good information on striper fishing patterns, tips & techniques. Members also have access to recorded meetings to view & meeting notes so that they can gain from the information shared by speakers at the monthly meetings.
As a member, various Club sponsors provide member-only discounts from time to time. Right now, for the months of March & April, Fitec Castnets is offering Smith Mountain Striper Club members a 70% discount off their cast-nets. This is an incredible benefit they are providing our members which pays for $30 annual membership fee multiple times over.
So, with Spring planer board season upon us, surely you need a new net to replace an old torn up one, or to have a backup ready for when you do hang that stump at 20' when catching bait. Why not join the Striper Club and be able to take advantage of this incredible member benefit - which benefits you, the Club & the fishery all at the same time?
If you are interested, you can fill out the membership form on the SMSC Website and mail or scan/e-mail it, or even just e-mail the information on the form to smsc@smithmountainstriperclub.com. You can pay via via check (mail along with the form to the Club PO Box), or submit payment via PayPal (our PayPal address is smsc@smithmountainstriperclub.com). Upon receipt of your membership, we'll promptly provide you with details on how to order your new Fitec castnets taking advantage of this great Club discount. If you have any questions, drop us a note at the e-mail above, or you can send me a PM here on the board.....
Would love to have you support striper fishery through your Club membership while being able to take advantage of a great discount like this as well!

Do any kids show up at meetings? StriperJohn - I appreciate the compliment.... though I'll say it's not just me - but the Club's overall leadership & the members as a whole that make the Club strong. As to kids at meetings - we love to have them join us - after all, they are the future of our sport. I'll admit that I am often on the younger end of the demographic in our meetings, but we need more younger folks involved and let's start them even younger. Our buddy Nathan's son, Ethan, came this past Friday night as well as one other new member's son - and we have another member's son in his early teens that comes on a regular basis (in fact, he helped to lead a demonstration on tying bucktails & flies at our February meeting - and he's currently leading the 2015 fish ladder....well, actually the only one of the ladder right now... putting the old dudes to shame ). We also try to make sure we take care of our younger participants.... Lil' E made out with door prizes Friday night

Going to share the March video with folks here - both so that they can get a taste of our meetings (well, you won't get to taste the hot-dogs... sorry - have to be there in person for that...), but also to to share the information from VDGIF on the state of the SML striper fishery.

Mike,
Thanks much for posting the video of the meeting. I live far away for now, but have a place at the lake and plan to be there in a few years. For now it's weekends and a week here and there. This gives me a chance to learn and stay connected. Very much appreciated.
