Wanted to just say hello ! My name is Tom, I moved back to the area from North Carolina a short time ago and enjoy fishing and hunting. I work in Lynchburg and live on a small farm out near Forest. I grew up fishing SML and have fished the entire lake, day and/or night. I use to fish a lot of tournaments on the lake and I love night fishing on the lake. I am usually out there about once a week or weekends. I fish a lot, but since I've been in NC for about 8 years, I am re-learning the patterns. I enjoy fishing for Stripers, or even bass and catfish when the stripers aren't biting. I fish the lake, but I fish saltwater most of the time. Occasionally, I'll keep a striper for the grill, but I usually return all freshwater fish, so I can catch them again. But just about all saltwater fish go in the freezer. I fish saltwater from eastern shore, OBX, Moorehead, Wrightsville, etc... depending on what's running. I, and my wife (she loves to fish as much as I do) like to fish inshore (bays) - Flounder, Drum, Trout, Stripers, Spanish, etc... Would like to hook up with other anglers that would like to go fish Saltwater also. right now, I have a small bay boat - 20' center console, saltwater trolling motor, etc... You need to have your own boat as mine is usually full (wife, son or friends) It is always nice (safer) going with other boaters out on the bay or off shore. We use to go with my father in-law but he is getting older and selling his boat. Let me know if you are interested, I've been fishing down there for 20 years and have some really good spots. I like trying new places and fish Buggs and also like to go down to Santee Cooper in SC for a weekend trip too. Recently went down there and caught the "much talked about" monster catfish all weekend, it was incredible and I would love to go back. I heard their Stripers are also awesome. Hope to meet you all out on the lake sometime. Tight Lines !
Tom

Hey Tom. Earl here. I am new to fishing here in VA even though I been here 8 years. Spent 38 years fishing Florida. I am just finishing the rebuilding my boat from the bottom up. I got a 23 foot John Allmand Ticonderoga. I can't wait to hit the bay and ocean and enjoy SML. Would love to hook up with you and go to the bay. I have fished FL from the Marquesas to Bimini. I went offshore every weekend from May 1 to Oct 31. Then we would fish near shore and the reefs in the winter. Give me a call at work sometime. 434.369.0039

I'm planning on going to Norfolk the second week of Sept. Until then I'm going to concentrate my efforts on SML. I got a lot to learn.

Hi! I'm Jeff, just moved to Roanoke in July from Ohio. Spent years fishing in OH, MI for bass, walleye, salmon, trout, and other critters. I have not caught a striper yet, so it's about time! Will be bringing my boat down from OH in the next few weeks and looking forward to wetting a line in SML! This looked like a good place to learn the ropes and connect with some folks that know the lake!!

JM:
Welcome fellow Ohioan. We moved to SML from Akron about 1 1/2 years ago. Still learning the ropes of SML myself. Fished for walleye and steelies on Lake Erie and King Salmon, Steelies, Lake Trout and Browns on Lake Ontario. On both lakes we used downriggers and dipsies. The problem on this lake is the variable depths. One minute you're in 100 feet of water, the next minute you're in 15 feet. I have seen more and more people using downriggers (vs. planer boards which I usually have out). Hope to see you on the lake.

Let me know when you come down, I'll be glad to show you around. As for the stripers, I am also learning, but will be glad to show you what not to do. LOL ! I enjoy casting and jigging mostly, but I am going to try some of this live bait everyone is talking about soon. I'll be out there this Wednesday night and Friday night / Saturday morning.

Hey Seadawg, I was hoping to catch up with you at the lake next weekend. I plan on going out Sat. afternoon and staying till Monday. I am looking forward to meeting you and your wife. I miss my fishing buddies in Fl. something fierce. They are a great bunch of guys and we went offshore every sat morning and then picked up our families at the dock and went to Beer Can Island to swim and BBQ. Really miss it. Do boaters up here keep up with each other on the radio? If they do what channel? I usually monitor 8. You can hail the Honk N Hurl anytime. When we meet I'll tell you how I ot that name. Earl
