This is how I created the masts (I guess this is what you call them) for my rednecks. This will also work for outcast planers as well. The parts needed are: - Threaded rod. See below picture for details.
- Heat shrink tubing. See below picture for details.
- Clip and key chain ring. I used my clips from my old crappy Water Bugz planer boards.
The tools needed are: - Hammer. Used for banging end of threaded rod.
- Sawing device to cut rod. I used a sawzall. A hack saw would suffice.
- Drill and drill bit. Used to drill hole in area of rod you hammered.
- Lighter or hair dryer. Used to heat the shrink tubing. I used a lighter because I am impatient.
Procedure. - Cut rod to desired size. 6 inches or so.
- Bang the end of the rod flat. I banged on both sides and didn't really care about how it looked. Although, I could have finished them nicely with a few touches on the grinding wheel.
- Drill hole in flat piece big enough so that the key chain thingy can slide through easily.
- Melt the heat shrink tubing over the rod leaving room for the nuts and lock nut that hopefully still exist on your old planer. Because I could only find 4 inch tubing, I had to cut a second piece.
- Attach everything using common sense.
And there you have it. A new mast for less than a dollar. Please note that because I am OCD, I had to make two. I cant have a yellow clip on the right side and a black clip on the left. This would be bad!

But wouldn't each side having is own color be less distressing to the ocd mind than mixed colors on each side? Are you weeping in frustration now?

I do like how the hair dryer matches the color of the boards. Well almost.

Secondly, I never use more than 6 boards. These are all black. These are two extra boards. Thus, it makes sense to associate yellow with extra. Let's just let this go please. PLEASE!!!
