I just got off the phone with Tim Wade again to order another net (1/2" - 1" stretch). He was adamant about not using fabric softener. I believe he mentioned that fabric softener will deposit paraffin wax on the mono which will degrade it over time. He has personally seen nets that fell apart after being soaked into high concentrations of fabric softener. Thus, his feeling is NO fabric softener. His cleaning method is as follows: - Fill 5 gallon bucket with water
- Slosh the net up and down into bucket until the bucket water is dirtier than the net
- Rinse off the net
- Drop the wet net back into a closed storage container and forget about it
- No need to air dry
In fact, Tim mentioned that it is better to store mono wet then it is to store it dry...which makes sense given what I have read about preparing mono. So... simple is better.... According to Tim Wade.

Interesting... I always let it dry so that I don't get knocked down by the smell when I open the fishbox (with a nice rubber gasket) that I keep my nets in!

Tim actually mentioned if you can't handle the smell, then let it air dry, put it into the container, and then ad a bit of water to maintain a most container environment.

I would dip mine in the pool to clean it. Wife would get really pee'd though. Not a chlorine pool, salt water.

My net is always in better shape when I take it out if I store it a bit moist.
