FYI Check your safety equipment and make sure everything is up to date and on the boat. Also remember children under 12 must wear PFD's. The boys in blue will be around Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Everyone please be careful on the water, keep a good lookout, slow down and make sure all lights are working and you have extra bulbs and fuses. If anyone wants a USCGAUX vessel check let me know and I will get with you and do it. I also do inspections on OUPV vessels to make sure you have everything on board you need in case you are boarded by the USCG.

They will be using the station boat with a boarding crew on it, may bring the 25' footer up later in the year. Looking at doing at least a 100 boarding's in the four days. Should make for a interesting weekend.

I once had officers in some enormous cruiser tell me they were going to board my 12' sunfish. They need to adjust their procedures to the vessels.

They can stop and board any vessel at any time without any reason. Times I've been out with they were very courteous and professional. Mostly they check safety equipment, and enforce the kids PDF rule.

The game wardens don't scare me, but that big CG boat scares me. Those guys don't play around and you definitely don't wanna be out of compliance.

How do we go about having a safety check completed?
Is there a fee?

USCGAUX will be at Bridgewater Saturday doing vessel safety checks, and at Crazy Horse. Some one will check all the safety equipment and make sure its in good shape and in compliance, if so they put a dated sticker on it showing it was checked. FYI game wardens don't give you any special treatment, they say just because you had everything on there when it was checked don't mean you will keep it on there. If you are boarded by Coast Guard and they find anything wrong its a federal offence not a local court. They can do them on recreational boats only, After this weekend if you want a check give me a shout and I will do it for you, just got too much to do this weekend. And there is no charge.

Just bumping this back up, they will be out after lunch tomorrow and out the rest of the weekend through Monday. Everyone please be careful out on the water, with the increase in boat traffic on a holiday weekend and with the temperature being up it looks like its going to be a beautiful weekend.

Cornelia:
I missed the boat check a Crazy Horse last weekend because I was in NC. When you do boat checks, do you issue a sticker if all is well? If so, I would like to schedule a boat check whenever it's convenient for you. Thanks in advance. Jim

I will be at the station all weekend, and can do them, also they are doing them at Bayside marina along with a SeaTow safety set up.
