redfin my grand paw always told me "You ain't striper fishing if you ain't getting hung up." And I live by that. I figured it out though. After the stripers are gone I wait for the water to get real low and then put the canoe in and float. When I get to all the places I know has been fished a lot I jump out and check all the rocks. I get a hole lot of lures back doing that. I have found some real nice stuff over the years. I would not recommend doing this unless you know the river real good and can swim. Yes I call my self a "river rat". Lol Buzzard

I consider myself a "river rat" and know the river well from the dam down to brookneal. I don't mind losing tackle it's part of the game. Fished Brookneal this morning and caught a nice walleye no stripers. Fished towards the dam and caught a 26" striper this afternoon.
