Does everybody use marine engine oil? Or have any of you experimented with car engine oil? I have seen on other forums that people have/do use regular car oil. Went to four stores today nobody had marine oil except 2 stroke. Thoughts?

If I where you I would go to the Bass boat central site go to the motor section find your motor and ask that question . what motors cost I would not want to experiment.

I am not experimenting, just seeing if anybody else has. I have read some have had car oil in their boat for 10+ yrs with no problems. I will probably head to closet marine store Monday. Just curious about the users on here.

My owners manual does not specify "marine" grade oil. Just premium 10W30 or 10W40.

I don't claim to know anything about the 4 strokes but looks like car oil would be ok since they are both water cooled.....but again I know nothing of the new engines....hope my 2 stroke lives a long time lol

I think the main thing is to look at your outboard's specs and get the specific details on what type of oil is required - not just the 10w40 but, but there are some SAE specs (#s or letters that correspond to various specifications). If your oil of choice meets those minimum specs you should be good.
That said, if the motor is still under warranty, I personally would spend a few more $$ for the mfg's oil - not that they can deny a warranty claim if you don't use "their" oil, but you know you're using what is required. Once out of warranty, as long as the oil meets the specs, save a few $$$
