Bedford County Dispatch is connected to everything. So you can call 911. Remember there are some restrictions for using 911. But if you have a "real" reason to use 911, Bedford Dispatch is first class. Being a member of a Bedford rescue squad I have gotten to know just how excellent they are.

Usually quicker to call Bedford County on this number, if you dial 911 on the lake it depends which tower you go to as to which county dispatch you get. You may get any one of the four counties and they will have to transfer you to Bedford County.
Bedford dispatch 540-587-7601
On weekends USCGAUX station 540-751-3237
Dept. game and Inland Fisheries (Game Wardens)
Forest office 434-525-7522
To report crimes 1-804-367-1258

It is true that depending on the cell tower you are on you may not get Bedford County, however the towers are based on location to the 911 call centers and you may be closer to a certain area of the lake that can get you help quicker depending on location. When you call they will ask you where you are located on the water and they can direct and transfer you to the correct contact. It may be better depending on a location by water to take someone to another fire/rescue station other than one in Bedford county. If you are way up the Blackwater, Bedford County won't be able to help however which ever county you get intouch with will all know what to do so it is best to dial 911 for any emergency and let them do all the leg work.

Bedford county dispatchs all the fire boats on the lake, Franklin just put a sheriffs boat on the water this year, I think most of the fire boats have a medical tec on them now, not sure about that will have to check with them and make sure,

I just remembered, If you pick up one of the Lake Association handouts at one of the marinas they have all of the numbers in them, along with a map of the lake with markers for free. and most of the places on the lake that cater to boaters. Know there were some at Bridgewater Sunday, I got my son-in-law one of them to put on his boat.
