Guys, Got a question for you. I've got a 96 model G3 1756 aluminium with a 40 Tracker by Merc on it. I brought it up when we moved from AR a couple years ago. Still runs great, but the boat needs a few things... new carpet and some TLC. Its a good solid boat, but I just don't need it anymore.
My problem is this. I want to sell the boat, but I don't have the title for the trailer that its on. I've sent 2 different checks to the title dept in Arkansas, but they never seem to receive them. I've called countless times, and they seem unwilling to do anything unless I am standing there in person. I've got the registration for the boat, AR doesn't title smaller boats.
So, should I knock some money off and sell just the boat and hope someone has a trailer or is going to keep it on the water? Or keep fighting with the AR title folks? Thoughts?

You can rebuild the trailer and restamp the axle to make a new title for NC not sure about Va laws though.

If you sell it without the trailer you are going to be really limiting your prospective buyers. If it were me I would be finding a way to get all paperwork together to sell as boat and trailer. Do you have plates on the trailer and if so what state? Back in AR? If they DMV down in AR is claiming they are not getting your checks are the checks being cashed? If so I would be checking to see who is cashing them. If its the DMV you can give them the transaction number and they can pull it up that way.

Yep, the plates are from AR. Neither check I sent them has been cashed. The second letter I sent UPS, so I had delivery confirmation. They still say they never received it.

Do you have a bill of sale or a receipt for the trailer from when you bought it, if so you should be able to get a VA title to the trailer. If not you can always go the homemade route. Have you went down to DMV and talked to them, might be a good thing to do to see what you need to get it titled in VA

I've got a bill of sale, but since I had it titled in AR, VA wants the title from them before they can title it.

Have you asked if AR will take a CC number over the phone?

They will not take a CC number. Check only, and they say 5-6 weeks after they get your check/application they will send a title. Apparently if you are standing at their counter it is a 5 min process, but not if you mail in an application. Extremely frustrating to try and deal with.

I had the same problem with a trailer. Spoke to someone at the dmv and they said an affidavit from the previous owner stating they sold it you would suffice. I tracked down the previous owner and he gave me the owner who last titled it and got him to sign the paperwork. This worked in va

If you got UPS delivery conformation someone at the AR DMV must of signed for it. Does UPS have the name of that person? I'd get that name and call back with that info, talk to that person and tell them to quit sitting around their gravy government office job and get this taken care of. I'd bet if they lost his pay check a couple times he'd be able to get this figured out for you. Good luck

If you have a clean bill of sale to the trailer no one has to know it was titled somewhere else. Just fill out the paperwork and give them the money for a VA title. One thing I learned a long time ago is not to tell them anything they don't ask and then the least amount of information you can on what they ask and always play dumb.
