Guys, Been doing some research on this module, and it looks like you could get it and have your sonar screen display on an iPAd or smartphone. Anybody tried it? It'd be great to have that big iPad screen displaying what was on the finder. I've love to just buy an HDS 10 or 12, but that isn't in the cards right now.

I've just started looking into that myself. I usually fish from the front of my boat where I have a small lowrance near the trolling motor, but I can't see the HDS-10- on the console. With the sidescan now I spend more time on the back, but prefer fishing up front. It would be great if that would work on a pad or smartphone.

I believe the GoFree only works with the HDS Touch units - not sure it works with the HDS Gen2 units - I know it does not with the original Gen1.
One thing to consider if you're thinking about mounting an iPad or Android tablet up on the bow - but the time you get the tablet, a waterproof case and a mounting solution - how far towards the price of a HDS7 or 8 are you? I am not sure of the utility of it on a smart-phone just due to the small size of the screen.

I don't really see the value in it unless you're just a gadget whore like Mward. I bet there's some lag on it too. I don't have an iPad but if I did, my boat would be the last place I would want to take it. The only thing that would be cool was if you didn't have sonar and could steal it from your buddy in the boat next to you.
It works on Gen2 Mward, but not if they're networked with Gen1 units.

That probably says a lot... if mward doesn't have it in his boat, why should I even consider it!
I was hoping to swipe my daughter's iPad occansionally, and just use that! Maybe I will keep my eyes open for a good deal on another unit. I've got an HDS 7, which will be okay I think for running the structure scan, but it'd be nice to have another unit for convential sonar/chart.

Well, I don't have a Touch yet either.... I'd just be worried about messing up the iPad - they are not build rugged - if you mounted it on the dash in a waterproof case, then it might be OK - up on the bow.... no way in my book.....

Doesn't it just show what your unit is showing? Not sure you can run sidescan on your HDS unit and sonar on the iPad app? But maybe...

Tyler, I believe you are right. the IPad would just mirror whatever was on the screen of the unit. another reason it may be more logical to go with a separate unit instead of an iPad...
