Any suggestions of hunting clubs around the lake that are open to new members? I've not hunted in years, but my two sons (14 and 16) have said they'd like to learn. Thanks.

Mostly private land and not many public areas to hunt around the lake. Hunt clubs around here are far and few between. Best thing to do is find a willing land owner that would give you permission to hunt and that is a rare occasion.

Just remembered that Smith Mountain is open to public hunting now. Also, there is a hunt club on the mountain. Can't remember the name but I am sure it is still there. I have harvested some nice deer on that mountain 10-12 years ago. Not sure what kind of hunting pressure they are getting. Try it.
