Hey fellas just wondering if any of yall have tried live eel at SML? I stock up on them and have about 20 in my livewell right now. Normally I just use them for catfishing, but I was wondering if anyone had luck on the lake with them, or if they are considered an invasive species? Also, how would you hook em for downlines so that they dont wrap up the line 1000 times?

Have wondered the same thing, they sure love them in saltwater, only way I could think of would be maybe a wire rig to keep them stiff

I know several guys that have tried without much success - either they balled up in a knot due to the lack if current or trolling speeds, or just didn't catch anything. A winter or so go Saunders Tackle carried them - never heard much about success - course maybe someone was keeping it a tight lipped secret  |

Gotcha. Well I also think that since te availability is limited, the amount of folks that have tried them also is. But that's up here at Anna. I about to walk out the door and head to the lake. Might just pass on brining the eels today, on the count of rain  |

I'm sure if you got on a big school of feeding fish, one might eat an eel, but one might eat anything you put down there. Stick with the main forage base of the lake and you'll catch the most fish. There's no secret and easy live bait for these fish, unfortunately. Gizzard shad will always be número uno with alewives a close second.
