Bought 2 sets of outcast at Franklins about 3-4 months ago. It was the last set they had and I haven't seen them at the store since then (I usually hit the store at least 2-3x /month). There was a rumor on the internet that the person making them has closed shop...then again, maybe he's just taking a break from production. I guess the maker is employed by a railroad...maybe he's doing a lot of overtime.

I think I'm gonna send the Yellowbirds back. I do like the idea of supporting small business so may keep the waterbugz to experiment with. I'm already in the process of building a set as I type. Well see how it goes

Striper addictions are not bad. I had a few sets, but I sold them once I tried the Outcast. The SA boards are a lot better than the Waterbugz and probably better than the Castaway long term. That foam can't last very long on the Castaways. The foam on the Striper Addictions, if its still the same, will last a long long time. It's construction grade.

The striper addiction are good boards! What I use! I make a few changes to them though! I get the pig tail swivels like on the water bugs and put them on it and I also get the release clips like on water bugs and put them on it as well! Another 20$ max! The clips that are there are ok but I just like the adjustable like on water bugs so I can adjust to size bait! You won't sink them with 2 oz and 15" shad! . Another thing is if you keep a socket set w you you can also change sides of the boat w addicts! I think he has them marked by color as to port or starboard though! Red/green!

I have been using Water bugz for a while and anything under 10 inches is not a problem -- When you get into the 12 + chad the boards will pull back a little but not enough to warrant giving up on them -- if you use the double foam the work just fine for the big shad -- Any planer board is going to get yanked around a bit when a Mongo starts to swim for its life ( love when that happens) --

The smaller baits is fine! Most my smaller baits I try to place right in the face of the stripers so I run a little weight up to 2oz! The only Bait size that matters is the jumbos. Fish will come a mile to hit a jumbo so they don't matter either! Just remember a stinger hook on them! Boat speed & wind is the problem with how a board works! Windy and .5 they might not plain like ya want! Just bump up to .7 and they should plain but you will have to consider your baits weight and keep it in strike zone( more on weight below)! Calm and .3 and below they pretty tough to plain! Most guys run .5 - 1.3 anyway! But when you hit that school of fish and want to slow down to .2 to .3 to stay in the school longer! Diffrance between a single and double to a quad! You stop and the small bait not going to pull your boards all over the place like the jumbos will! Jumbos will have you a mess in no time! Especially if ya fighting one that pulls the boat in a circle! Weights I like the smallest weight I can get away with! Some time as small as a split shot! Only time I'm using 2oz is when I'm flirting with the top of trees and want to keep my bait tamed! Another tip! Run a large bead to keep you board from sliding all way to the hook knocking your fish off or possibly losing the board off your line! This is all something to learn with time spent on the water playing with it!

Even on the outcasts I replace the swivel with a higher end swivel.

Agree - the Outcast have cheap snap-swivels - that is the 1st must-do upgrade on them - to put a Offshore Pigtail swivel.
Getlinewet - I'm going to move your 2nd question to a new thread to keep the subjects clean....

I will say the waterbugz came with really nice swivels. He also sells them separately in packs of 5 for $5. His shipping is $3 which is very cheap fwiw

I use and own both the water bugz and out casts. The outcasts will out work the water bugz hands down. Outcasts pull farther out than the waterbugz. Anything bigger thasn a light lighned alewive and the waterbugz will struggle big time. As for using a planner buard with down lines. I've done it with an outcast but dont run them very wide and Ive only done it to give some space between my lines to keep them from tangaling. Another option if you cant find the outcast's is when Dwayne opens back up at Captains Quarters he sells the Redneck plainer boards. Which are not outcasts but will work better than the waterbugz
