So i recently just in the past few months have been following this professional Sail fishing team in Florida, and they happen to use Avet reels. So I looked this up online and found the Avet SX reel series(there smallest reel series) and I've read about it in other reviews and seen it on Youtube in action. It's extremely durable and light weight from what I've been able to gather. It's very small and yet it can hold such a large amount of braided line, 700yds/30lb. I wanted to see you all's opinion on this. I think it's an overall great reel. I just wanted to see what you all think. Again, it's an Avet SX 5.3:1. Hoping for some positive feed back. Thanks!!

I believe Fishhook on here had a lot of good things to say about the SX reels - he uses them at the Bay for Striper and Drum. Would do all you need and more on SML.
I picked up a few MXL's for the Bay and TN after fishing with them with a guy down in TN - nicely constructed, I like the lever drag, and made in the USA. The lack of a levelwind was the only drawback and I found it easy to get used to my having.

Yeah, I forgot about that till after I posted this, sorry bout that. But yeah, I have found some from bass pro shops, the color I want is gold, which happens to be on back order, they have silver but I prefer gold because I love the look of the Penn international gold reels and i wanted something that color and as a lever drag and that wasn't overkill. So I'm going to wait a little longer before I one.

You will be glad you got them, and enjoy fishing them for sure. Keep us posted after you fish them.
Funny, I have never had a Gold one. I have Silver, Black, and Green so far. I do need a Gold one, for a new Heaver I got last year, has a lot of gold in the wraps. Fishhook

Hey guys!, I finally got the Avet SX 5.3. Its awesome, haven't used it yet but I know that it'll work great, it's strong and has great drag.
But, one of my questions is what would you guys recommend that I set my drag at for trolling umbrella rigs?

I've read other guys saying they set the drag just enough that the u-rig won't pull out when trolling.

Only thing about a Lever drag I don't like, is you have to disengage drag to set. Had to do it once with a sea monster on the other end. He was headed for the gulf stream steady smoking line off the reel, had to "thumb" it and pull lever back to tighten up the setting. I set to full, them pushed it back, he didn't even notice, so I had to stop the line loss with another "thumb" and he finally parted the line. Was a rush, but had to re-spool after that one.

Yeah I have to admit its kinda weird, but, as long as I'm doing it right that's fine with me. Plus I've never had a lever drag so it's a learning process even though I know how to use it but, I've never fished it. So I'm excited to wet the line on it!Plus i put Power Pro multicolored braid on it so can't wait to see how accurate I can get jigging from the bottom at times.
