Hello all,
My name is Jeff Williams and I have been a "lurker" on the forums for a couple of years. I live in Forest, Va. (just west of Lynchburg) and I just recently signed up as an official member.
I have quite a bit of "all-around" experience on SML but I am always trying to learn more. I first fished for stripers on the lake when I was about 8 years old (1988). I am 33 now. My folks had a weekend place on the lake when I was growing up at Lumpkins Marina. That was back when all the guys on the lake used CB radios to communicate. My Dad's handle was "Topgun". They had to sell that place many years ago but got back on the lake in the summer of 2008 at Palmer's marina. They recently sold their place at Palmer's this fall. They now have a second home on the Franklin County side just up river of HFB before the first left turn in the channel. The family enjoys this place frequently and especially in the summer. SML has become a vital part of our family. We count the days down to summer (Memorial Day) every year!
I'd really like to get hooked up with some of the guys that are known to "know their stuff". Just to throw a few names out there that I've taken notice of...catsnstripers, bent rod, bigun, mwardncsu, shadslinger, and striperseeker. Okay, come on now, don't let those heads get too inflated! I am looking forward to swapping tips, secrets, honey holes, or just plain shooting the bull! I have done plenty of trolling and downlining. I want to learn more about planer boards and jigging. I can navigate the lake at night. I catch my own bait at our dock light (I may tell where the dock is later!) and I have a submersible cage on a winch that I made to store the bait in. I am not in the SML Striper Club but have considered becoming a member.
I am currently fishfinderless but I have a new Lowrance HDS-7 w/ structure scan on the way. I want to get it mounted to the toon as soon as possible so I can get back out on the water now that the main deer season is out in my county. Now, that my part-time job of being a Deer Population Control Specialist is over, hopefully I can start some jigging!
I have seen where you guys are having a "meet and greet" soon at El Toreno. I have marked myself as a "maybe" on the Facebook link. Currently, I think Im the only maybe. I hope to be able to get out there and have a few and listen to the tales, lies, and music. If you're interested in doing a lil fishing, just let me know, friend request me on Facebook, and hopefully we can hit the water.
Jeff Williams, Topgun
P.S. I didn't mean to get lengthy with this. I know a few folks like to bust on mwardncsu for his "Obamacare-like" length write-ups (even though, me being a technical/engineering guy and detail-minded - I like them)....just saying! See, I told ya I had been "lurking" around on this site.
