I was wondering if any one is using structure scan and if they think it is beneficial. How do you use it? Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated. (I may be sorry I said that - - LOL) There is a LSS 1 and think the new version is LSS2 HD. I use to fish the James River Bridge, other pilings and structure for stripers. Sure seems like a no brainer to troll by till you find the fish. AJK

The side scan feature is absolute money. I don't really know that the downscan would be worth it over just regular sonar considering what it cost, but the side scan makes it all worth it. Takes fish finding (and bait finding for that matter) to a whole nother level IMHO. It's almost like pulling planer boards...you can cover a lot wider amount of water than you can with regular sonar. I'd love to have one, but unfortunately I don't have an extra $1800 laying around.
I believe the LSS 1 and 2 units are basically the same thing other than the transducer size. I think it had something to do with the lawsuit that Hummingbird brought against them or that's what I think I heard.

For me structure scan makes understanding the normal sonar easier. It really sorts out brush and trees from fish. I have a hard time interpreting side scan. Maybe that is because I only have an hds 7. I understand it is better on an hds 10.
The truth is there are many striper fishermen out there who are more successful than I am without downscan or sidescan. Fancy electronic are fun but they don't make up for skill and experience.
