This is the boot I bought and the site from which I made the purchase. The associates were very helpful in directing me to the right boot once I described my needs/wants. At that time, the boot was $119 before a 10% coupon that always seems to exist on this site. The listing I have below is for a boot that comes up high on the calf. The one I purchased was a mid-calf. I believe that was a good choice. www.gearcor.com/22276g/Xtratuf-II-Rubber-Neoprene-Chevron-Sole-Hi-Boot.htm?gclid=CjwKEAjwzqKiBRCAydTZzOLi9CISJACm3irWJOoBskvQKlWSDsTwz28rCMcw4BBJCo1w6oUGrf3NSxoCSzjw_wcBThe concern of falling in and the added weight that comes with water filling the boot is certainly real. They slip off very easily at the house, but once in the water, I don't know how easily these boots would be to get off. It makes me wonder if a boot that cinches around your calf is better or worse.

Does anyone have any data to support the idea that you will sink to the bottom with the added weight of boots, bibs, and coats ? My guess is that you will go down much faster but how much weight makes the lifejacket useless ? Was actually considering testing this during the summer months off the dock with full winter gear, lifejacket, a rope tied around my waist, and my wife holding the other end of the rope. It boiled down to how much I trusted my wife so I'm hoping one of you can provide YOUR test results Sent from my XT1080 using proboards

I doubt it's enough to overcome the extra 15 lbs of bouyancy (min) provided by a pdf. And that extra 15 lbs goes a looong way because the you only need enough extra bouancy to make the total weight of you and your clothes less than an equal volume of water. You'll say "but the winter clothes weigh much more when wet!"... That doesn't matter since only things heavier than water sink... and the water that fills up your clothes is not heavier than the water in the lake Now, climbing out of the water in waterlogged clothing is a whole 'nother (potentially lethal) story, but that wasn't the question. If science makes your head hurt, the summary is WEAR YOUR PDF YOU KNUCKLHEAD!

I have first hand data and video that clearly shows that a man with heavy boots and grundens can fall into 40 degree water and survive. Heck... He even saved a 15 pound net.

Received size 12 xtratuf ii boots today. They are really nice and warm. I wouldn't recommend wearing them in 60 plus weather. Fit great and are well made. Thanks R22.

I have a pair of the muck boots -- where them all the time for all the horse chores - through the mud , rain, snow, and take them on the boat -- spray them down with water after mud event and they clean up great --- they come in a couple of different heights ( calf high and below the knee) and they come in a few different levels of insulation --- I have had one pair and are still trying to wear them out..

After standing in them for 15 hours or so on a boat running around like a mad man.... I would say I have found the most comfortable boots thus far. They also sent me a free drink koozie that I passed off as swag but man it is really good!

Thought I'd offer up another option..... I ended up picking up a pair of these at a Southern States for $60 and was pleased with them in my trial run the past two weekends. I was a little worried about the sole not being grippy enough, but it did fine on the fiberglass deck, even when ice started to build up (though I was quite careful with my footing). On last Sat AM it was 25 when we headed out at 7:30 and did not break freezing until after 10 or 10:30am and with a wicking liner sock and a heavy sock on top of that I was comfortable - toes got a tad cool but not cold or uncomfortable at all. I wore a bit heavier socks today and with temps just above freezing my feet stayed warm all day. www.southernstates.com/catalog/p-10990-statesman-16-superior-fieldrunner-boot-black-men-11-women-12.aspx
