Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone looking for what I think is a really good crankbait rod/reel combo for a decent price... I bought a St Croix 6'10" & 7'4" 'Glass' rod and paired those with Lews SS1S Speed Spools The rods go for about $110 apiece and the reels are only $100. I also bought a Speed Spool Tournament and paired it with a 0MBC66MHF Mojo Bass rod. The Tournament speed spool is $50 more but has some nice goodies that the regular speed spool doesn't such as audible click on the spool tension and drag. But it doesn't come with the 5:4:1 gear ratio & longer handle that I wanted for the crankbait reels. Anyway, I've absolutely fallen in love with these rods & reels after having put in a few weekends with them now including a tournament on the Pamunkey River last Saturday. To me, they're pretty much as good as my partners high end Revo Reels and Ducket Rods at a 1/4 of the price. I was throwing 1/4oz Bandit 100's using 20# braid on a pretty windy day with no problems at all. The best thing is the way these rods load up; you basically just keep reeling and the fish hooks itself. Some of that is because of the braid. The Rods have a pretty good backbone but they're tapered perfect for using light braid without having to use a violent hookset even when you hook them from a long way away.
