Hi, all. I live in walnut cove NC. about 90 minutes south east of sml . I just bought a 22' walkaround wellcraft. I am coming to smith mtn lake the week of 12/16/13, taking my 73yo dad striper fishing, I am not good at throwing a cast net. I wish I could buy some bait, but I hear that's not allowed. can anyone recommend some artificial lures- areas on the lake to start on, i'll be coming in on booker t Washington road I think I would love to have my dad catch at least 1 stripper. any help to steer this blind squirrel in the right direction would be appreciated
Thanks' to all

I think there is still a place on Franklin Rd. here in Roanoke that has strippers, used to be a private club...I thought you guys had plenty of strip joints in NC...if you want to go fishing after the strippers I'm sure some of the Striper fishermen will be along to offer some advice...good luck, hope you can get your dad on some fish

I would have a variety of artificial baits available. Slightly Insane has a very recent post with much of the preferred artificial baits used on SML Stripers. Try the back of coves and points and always look for the feeding gulls. If you put the time in you will get your fish. You just have to be persistent. Remember we are in the "slot" and all fish 26" thru 36" must be released. Best to release all fish over 26" IMO. Good luck and enjoy the time with your Dad. Gator
