Weather: Cold Wind blowing from NW 5-15 Temps in mid 50's, sunny, then turned overcast/cloudy
Water: 61-63, visibility of 3'-5'
Techniques: Medium gizzards on free-lined planers
Decided with the silly cold weather forecast for Friday night/Saturday AM (upper 20's) and winds to 15 mph that I'd skip fishing Saturday morning and fish Sunday when the low is only supposed to be in the 40s and lower winds. So, I came mid-afternoon and headed out to catch some bait. Our buddy Nathan stopped by and headed out with me and we pretty quickly got 10 or 11 small sized "money makers" in a few throws and thought it was going to be easy but could not find any more in my creek and then headed on down to pick up Tyler and our other buddy Keith and try to catch some bait mid-lake.
Well, I should have kept throwing in my creek - seems the cold-snap pushed the bait out of the backs of some of the mid-lake creeks and we could not find any more - but we figured tomorrow is another day so we might as well use the baits we had to fish a few hours till dark.
We pulled several creeks till dark, and had a couple of blow-ups but only connected on one, 8 lb, 27" fish. Due to the limited # of baits we only put out three boards - two on the bank side and one mid-creek side. We were concentrating on the bank side but all but one of the blow-ups came off the "deep" side...
It was a cold afternoon that seemed to keep getting colder - certainly not helped by the slow action. I seriously was expecting to see the sea gulls at any moment - isn't it still October
Back out to try and find some alewives for the morning trip here in a bit..... they were not on some of the go-to lights around 8pm - hope they move on in so we have something to start the day with tomorrow besides 6 gizzards
