Sat. morning. Air temp at 5:30 was about 54 and the water temp was about 67-68. The light at the end of the dock died over night so there wasn’t any bait to be had in the morning. Was able to get enough bait off the lights around the cove but still had to pick through a lot of peanuts. Only had alewives and no shad to be found. With the cloudy sky and slight rain off and on I was hoping for a good day. Looked in Gills Creek but couldn’t mark anything so went up to Standiford but still nothing there. Ended up going up the BW further and found some small fish just below the 4H turn. Caught 3 smaller stripers and 2 catfish on down lines and planners. I guess small fish are better than no fish. Maybe I should have gone up the river further than I did.
Sun. morning I had better luck off the dock on the alewives which was good considering the full moon. I marked some stripers in Gills up past the marina and was able to hook one off a down line at 26’ in 50 FOW before it was time to head out. Only had a couple of hours for Sunday morning. Plan to be back next weekend and give it another try.
