Has anyone fished the OBX September/October? How has the fishing been??? Any suggestions for piers or Surf locations?

Any of the piers now is usually limiting on blue fish and catch a good mess of spot and mullet! The puppy drum are around and the big drum are showing up too! First of October is what I consider to be the best time as far as pluging- Spanish & blue(the name gotcha)! The last couple weeks of sept is best for the Spanish but usually get one or two come October! If it was my choice I would go to Avalon! It's more of a family crowd and can teach you the ropes on the big drum! Wonna see long distance casting!!!! If I was after kings and cobia and Spanish I think I would try the southern end at Avon! They are around end of sept! I'm a pier hopper so I get the blanket fishing permit! Haven't had the chance to go this fall, so I can't tell how this year has been but from pier reports its been pretty good the last few weeks when the weather is right! The off season start oct. and usually we rent a house at Avalon! Eat what we catch and walk to the pier! 10 or so of use split house at 100$ or so a person! We set for a week! Love it! Pick a pier! They all pretty much the same! One will tell you this one and one will tell you another! But play the wind like you would on the lake! Fish nags head with a north wind and fish the point with a south wind! When I was younger my grandfather would take to to the OBX to surf fish for my birthday which is oct 13 and stay the weekend! This has been 15 years ago or more! We never had any luck on the beach but then we didn't have equipment like we got now either! Always had fun on the end throwing the gotcha though! One year we went during thanksgiving and I got my first taste of stripers! Needles to say they was on a gotcha! At night on the glow-in-the-dark! GL if you get to go!

Gotcha is on point. But the beaches produce all fall as well. I know some people are there now and doing very well on a bit of everything in the surf. The big drum are still a little North of Buxton, but they are headed south. Bait has been tough this fall, but there is some around.
Good luck, and fish on !
