Greetings , Hit the lake yesterday from 3 til dark. Noticed a decent amount of boats for a weekday..must have been the weather. Bait catching was easy. I've never seen so many shad in my life. The stripes on the other hand were Mia. Hit my normal spots and they were empty. Trolled around to locate buttloads of shad but nothing feeding on em. I may have marked 1 small school but wasn't 100percent. The wife stayed home but were gonna give it a go tom. Hopefully they show up.

Also, I know it's supposedly not the best ideal thing to troll this time of year but have you ever thought about taking two umbrella rigs and joining them together? All you have to do is take one of the 12" leaders from one rig , take the shad off it and use that to connect to the other rig where u usually connect them, and trust me it works, caught four fish two weekends ago. The problem is if all of them have hooks which I recently learn not all of them should just the tails, it'll be very heavy. But hey it works, you can mix it up too, you can attach Alabama's, 12" rigs to 20" rigs, 12" to 12" or what ever. Just think about it, it might come to good use in the future

How would you even begin to know your umbrella rig weight doing all that to know what depth you are running. My U-rigs i know the weight and have a depth chart and know exactly how much line I need to run a certain depth. This way I go over a school of fish say 35', I adjust my line and pull my rigs right through them usually resulting in catching fish. And whoever told you that just the trailing shad should have a hook is wrong, every swimbait on my rigs have hooks. Some states have restrictions on the hooks but not VA.

Im not into trolling sorry. I think umbrellas should be illegal but thats another discussion for another time. I thought I read you can have a maximum of 5 hooks. My trolling consists of low speeds to locate fish. I may have a pole or 3 with live bait in the water but that just because I'm too lazy to reel em in.
Yes I'm familiar with Tricounty

Yes I'm familiar with Tricounty Va law does not restrict number or rods or hooks used to fish. Kinda curious why you feel umbrellas to be illegal? Im a bait fisherman myself first and foremost but do troll deep divers and umbrella rigs from time to time. I see at as no different than bait fishing except you dont have to catch the bait which we all know is one of the hardest parts to striper fishing. You troll live bait the same as artificial for the most part just alittle faster.

To be honest when you troll an u- rig most of the time u get hits it's gonna be on the tailer more the others so why put hooks on all of them plus it adds a lot of uneccessary weight you simply don't need. And plus I think that when using a double up it makes it look like a big school ya know. And by the way I'm the same way about troling like u shad
