Question does anybody think a Senator 114h2 oceanmaster combo is a lil overkill for freshwater striper fishing?

You seem to know penn reels! I prefer the 9,109,140,150,200 size smaller squider/surfmaster reels! 650 size spin fisher! All the senators are overkill IMO! Even the 209-309 are a little bulky to me! The newer penn 525 would be on all my combos if I had the $!

I say if you have them, use them. I use 109's for the lake and saltwater, on the lake I use 20# line, a little heaver on the coast. Back a few years ago before the die off you needed a heavier reel, hope those days come back. You will find a lot of saltwater gear being used up here.

Ya I have all Penn's but actually I don't own a 114 but my other friend does and that's why I asked because we use that for strips and I use my 209' and 113's for stripss also. I have recently thought about purchasing a squall 40LH but haven't quiet desided yet.

To me the fun is feeling the fish! Some days I take my bass gear and have fun with them, some days I take my penns/abus! I also find a much better hook-up on a lighter rod! And I'm sure the senators are not on light rods! Use what you got though! Squall are like the 525s I believe, I really like that style of reel! And I would go with a 30-40 size over a 20! I think you would like that high speed compared to your old penns!
I have two daiwa slx20sha (slosh as there called) that are the same style and love them! Large power handles! Only problem with them is I wish I would have got the 30s over the 20s! I prefer rh over lh on this style!

The Penn's ( 113h2'sare brand new) but ya I want to try the lever drag style because that's what they use offshore and plus it'll give me experience with that kinda reel being that I want to go more offshore than inshore in the future for bigger game fish.
